This morning in South Carolina, the Confederate flag was removed—never again to be publicly displayed. For many millions of Americans, this remaining emblem of the Civil War, continues as a symbol of slavery and hatred.
The battle over slavery was a stunning low point in the early history of America. An issue so divisive, that more than 500,000 men were willing to die to determine the final outcome.
There are some today, who believe that the Bible was responsible for the enslavement of human beings in the early history of the United States.
When we examine the text of the Old and New Testaments we find that it was men who instituted the practice of slavery, not God. There is no place in the Bible where the Bible instructs, nor condones the enslavement of another human being. Continue reading “The Bible And Slavery”
If a concise search is made to discover the reasons why people do not believe in God, it quickly becomes evident that every point of objection made by the atheist, is easily overcome with logic and reason. As I read through the following: “The Top 10 Reasons I Don’t Believe in God” by Greta Christina, it became clear that the author is simply making affirmation regarding things that she has little or no knowledge of.
It is common in life for persons to make inaccurate or incorrect statements about persons or matters to which they have very little knowledge.
These arguments are based largely on speculation and conjecture, rather than actual facts. It appears that this author is greatly misinformed about the subject that she attempts to write about as an instant expert. It is common amongst the atheists to regurgitate the statements of others before them, who were also in error regarding their statements. As an object lesson in how opaque the arguments against the existence of God are, I will give answers these to objections. In these responses I will demonstrate precisely how the atheist and skeptic consistently fail to demonstrate a compelling argument against the existence of God.
The following 10 objections to God are made by author, Greta Christina, in her book: But “Does God exist?” Continue reading “Refuting “The Top 10 Reasons I Don't Believe in God,” by Greta Christina”
Let us suppose for a moment that in Jerusalem, 2,000 years ago, a group of 12 men determined that they would create a new religion. The reasons for their scheme are simple: to become rich, gain power over other men, and receive great acclaim and public adulation. This new religion will have, as its central figure, a man who is said to contain the Spirit of the Living God. He will be killed and then on the third day, He will be raised to life.
First, we must understand—apart from the precision that would be required to make such claims believable, they would have to demonstrate how all of the things their Messiah says and does would be understood as a fulfillment of all the Old Testament predictions which describe a coming Messiah. What many people forget when they are evaluating whether Jesus Christ actually lived, died, and rose from the dead is the fact that someone just like Him was predicted by over 400 Old Testament prophecies. One of the empirical facts of evidence which sets the Bible apart from all other books who claim divine authority is the actual confirmation of the words of the Bible by Archeology.
If we can demonstrate that the ancient people and places, which are described in the Bible, actually existed—this provides great credibility for the authenticity of Old and New Testaments. Continue reading “Empirical Integrity of the New Testament”
Upon a search of the internet for Messianic Prophecies, there are several sources that assert that the Bible does not contain prophecies that were fulfilled by Jesus Christ. Further, critics of Hebrew prophecy claim that none of the claimed prophecies of the scriptures were intended as prophetic during their writing.
These arguments are primarily asserted, due to a lack of knowledge in Biblical prophecy and Hermeneutic application. Continue reading “How Messianic Prophecy is Determined”
When beginning a conversation with those who identify themselves as an atheist, the common objection that is stated for their unbelief in God is the assertion that there is no evidence which proves His existence.
When this statement is made, we must ask: “what kind of evidence are you looking for?
The atheist will usually tell you: “empirical, scientific, testable, evidence.”
This declaration leaves the intelligent person quite perplexed. The evidence for God is quite overwhelming. It becomes clear during these conversations with the atheist that evidence is not the real hindrance to their unbelief. We find that the will of the person had firmly entrenched the mind into a refusal to acknowledge evidence, even when it is compelling and empirical. This plight is very common amongst the human species and can be observed in several similar circumstances. The will is often dictated by the heart. When the heart is unyielding or unwilling to accept facts which are contrary to the will, the heart will refuse to accept these facts. A person who has determined in advance, what the results will be, cannot accept any evidence which violates their will. Continue reading “Evidence for God: What Kind of Proof are You Looking For?”
The world is fast approaching a time specified by the Bible in which the heavens and the earth will be destroyed by a fervent heat. Scientists today describe a similar event of great distance from the present, when the universe will fully expend all of its energy and collapse upon itself in a massive heat death in about 10100 years.[A]
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. –2 Peter 3: 10
The Bible specifies when this creation of a new heavens and earth will take place–as near the end of the one-thousand year Millennial reign of the Messiah.
Old Testament Reference: Isaiah 65:17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.
New Testament Fulfillment: Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
The Lord will destroy all that presently exists and begin again with an entirely new universe. The beings that will dwell in this new creation, will be those who have received the Messiah’s pardon for their sins and are now dwelling in perfect and eternal bodies. We will never grow old, become sick, or die again. The presence of evil and sin will also cease to exist and every person will love the Lord and live in conformity with His perfect will.
We often think of eternity as an existence that comprises endless time. In fact, eternity is not measured by time at all. There are no days or nights. There are no events that take place, one after another. In eternity, everything has already taken place and all that is–exists–in the present tense, forever. In eternity, all the events of linear time have already taken place. Every person who loves God, is living together with Him in heaven. All those who have rejected the love of God are gathered together in their eternal place. All events described by the Bible have already taken place. It is only here on earth that we must continue to experience the balance of time which the Lord has determined for all mankind.
Peter describes the timelessness of eternity—from God’s perspective: Continue reading “The End of the Universe: Time and Eternity”
I have thought a lot about those who deny God’s existence; and after decades of observing the character and life of those who reject the Lord, I fail to see the attraction of a life without Him. First of all, the claim that there is no God makes no rational sense to me. It is obvious that we live in a universe that is inexplicable, apart from an eternal intelligence as its source. How highly educated men and woman, who have spent years studying and growing in knowledge, can come to the conclusion that this exceedingly ordered and delicately balanced universe came into being by chance, is a mystery to me. They admit that they have no explanation for how these finely tuned absolutes fixed themselves to allow for life, believing instead that it all happened by blind chance.
Science is based on observable data that can be tested. Since all of the data regarding the existence of the universe points to design and purpose, it seems that wise men and women should not discount the possibility of God as its origin. It is much easier to understand the universe if we put a designer into the equation rather than persisting in an uncaused, accidental universe with no purpose. In the present modern age of the internet and computer technology, the world has the largest assembly of information ever known. The ability to search or write on any subject has become commonplace amongst those who have a laptop or handheld device. Research into the subject of Jesus life, death, and resurrection, is as easy as a few clicks of the keyboard. Adversaries of the Bible and Jesus Christ have written extensively in rebuttal of the historical Jesus, as well as the New Testament narrative which describes His resurrection from the dead. Many claims have been made by critics who assert that Jesus is a myth, the Bible is full of inaccuracies, and the resurrection never happened. To the untrained, these articles put forth by critics may appear, on examination, credible and factual. In fact, they are not.
To begin, most articles which claim that the Bible is inaccurate, or that Jesus is a myth, are based on the opinions of the writer and have no historical or factual basis. It is common amongst atheists and non-believers that they often espouse statements that have come to them from other atheists or non believers. Very rarely do any of those who take an adversarial position to the Bible or Jesus Christ, ever investigate whether the statements they are making–have a factual basis. Those who do posit facts, have invalid or inaccurate facts, and are not trained in the subjects that they claim to have knowledge of.
Upon a thorough examination of these positions against the Bible and the person of Jesus Christ, we find that these individuals did not begin with the idea that the facts are likely true, but commenced upon their investigation with the assumption that the Bible is an assembly of stories–written by men and the person of Jesus Christ is a fabrication of history. When any person begins with an assumption that something is not true, this bias will cloud every part of their investigation. It is impossible to arrive at a truly impartial conclusion when we have determined ahead of time that something must not be true.
The only way in which any honest person can truly know what is true and what is false–is when we begin with the premise: “I don’t know,” and then follow the evidence where it leads. Continue reading “Is the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Supported by Reliable Evidence?”
It is a fundamental principle of factual authenticity that no amount of evidence is ever sufficient to convince most skeptics of the Bible and the Historical Jesus–that both are true and reliable.
This author has been actively in pursuit of the facts of Jesus’ Resurrection, as well as the historicity of His existence as a real person of antiquity, for nearly 40 years. During this time, the facts which fully validate Jesus as a real person of history have continued to pile up–while those who reject Jesus has also increased. A person who has determined the end result of any question or unknown subject before the search begins cannot be convinced by evidence. Only those who are intellectually honest and are willing to follow the facts where they lead, may discover the real truth of any question of life.
I have found that in every discussion with atheist’s today who believe that the person of Jesus Christ is a myth, these individuals rarely investigate the available evidence for themselves. It is a clear and reoccurring problem with many atheists that they do not care to investigate evidence. Relying instead upon the words of other atheists a great number of critics simply do not investigate the facts to see if they are valid. It has been clear to me over the past 40 years that a great number of conclusions made by unbelievers are based upon personal choice rather than evidence. When a person does not want to believe something, they often look for others who agree with their conclusions in order to validate their choice.
In this article I present a brief example of historical evidence for the man described as Jesus of Nazareth which has been a part of the historical record for over 2,000 years. Even against vigorous opposition from adversaries who refuse to accept the written historical record, this evidence from secular history has been full validated by literary and historical scholars.
