There are certain times in the history of a nation that require nothing less than prayer. For those who do not understand the power or reason for prayer it is seen as weakness and inaction. For those who have a relationship with God, prayer is a vital link between people in distress and a faithful and capable friend during urgent times of need.
People often think of prayer as an attempt to change the mind or heart of God. In fact, prayer is only intended to change the heart of the one praying. God already wants to help, bless, and provide for people. All He is waiting for is for those who trust in Him to ask. We might wonder why, if God wants to do good, He doesn’t just do what needs to be done. It is important to God that we become involved in His plans for human life. He has made us like Him in that we also have caring hearts and a desire to see good in our world. He makes us co-workers with Him to accomplish His will. Many of us know someone who claims that they once believed in Jesus, but now no longer follow Him. This is not a new phenomenon, it has been happening since Jesus arrived on earth 2,000 years ago.
What someone says is not always met by their actions. The test of any confession is what we do in the long term. Jesus was very clear that only those who endure till the end will be saved (Matthew 10:22). John later stated that because certain individuals had departed Jesus’ church that this was proof that they never were a part of it. Continue reading “Why Some People Stop Believing In Jesus”
Most of us have a long list of regrets for the things we have done in our past. In fact, we waste an extraordinary amount of time thinking about things that we have no power to change. It is important to remember that we are not defined by the person we were in our past. We are defined by who we are today. It is through the choices that we are making right now that people understand who we are. Oh, I know that people remember the mistakes that you have made. Your relatives will think back to those foolish things that you said and did when you were younger and define you in those terms. The incredible thing about today is that you can begin a whole new life for yourself, if you want to. In no time at all, people will begin to think of you in a new way and define the person you are by the things you have been doing from this moment when you decide to change your life. There is a curious paradox that is presented in the pages of the Bible that a great majority of people have not understood. Jesus described a physical birth that every person will experience; and a second spiritual birth that is necessary in order to obtain eternal life. Jesus said that because of our sin and sin nature, we are all already under the condemnation of God and dead in our sins. Once we understand who Jesus is and the reason that He came into the world, we have the opportunity to be born again a second time. At that moment, our spirit within that was formerly dead, comes alive. Continue reading “Born Once; Die Twice. Born Twice; Die Once”
There has been some confusion over the Old Testament book of Leviticus, regarding certain provisions in the law of God which calls for death in specific matters of personal conduct. Does the Bible require the death of an individaul who practices adultery, fornication, homosexuality, or lesbianism, today?
In any attempt at understanding the Bible, we should first look at:
- Who the particular text is addressed to?
- What is the context?
- When was it written?
We notice that Leviticus chapter 20 is written specifically to: “the children of Israel.” Therefore, we cannot take this verse and universally apply it to the Christian church today. Nor can we apply it to the world, who are not addressed by this command.
Leviticus 20:1-2 1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Again, you shall say to the children of Israel:
This is not to say that God does not require all people to conduct themselves in purity in matters concerning their bodies. The Bible is very clear that God did not creates us for immorality, but instead to be a people of virtue.
